Which Is The Best Diet?
05/22/2025Here’s one I hear A LOT!!! I need to stop snacking. But, do you? Or do you need to think differently about where snacks fit into your nutrition. Snacks are bloody awesome.
Why We Believe We Need To Stop Snacking
The biggie here is that people will often come to me and feel that their main meals of the day are optimal but that they are side swiped by what they eat between meals. This might be the case but it’s not because snacking is bad per se and might be as a result of their meals being less optimal than they believe too.
What do I mean by this? It might be that the snacks of choice are more energy/calorie intense than their meals. The choice of snacks might be taking up more of their daily calories than their meals. They are effectively eating more calorie dense (and perhaps nutritionally lacking << read that they aren’t actually getting many nutrients from those choices) than the meals they are having. AND they might be having too little within their meals which are leaving them hungry and needing more. Setting their whole days nutrition up without balance. Don’t eat enough within your meals and you’ll be hungry. If you’re hungry you might not make great choices.
There’s also the addition of mindless eating. I have in the past been a mindless eater. What does that even mean? Eating without even enjoying a bite of what I’m eating. It might be eating on the go, it might be hoovering up something without even tasting it, eating whilst pre-occupied with other things.
